Hope + Intention + Action
I remember learning about the Baader–Meinhof phenomenon a few years ago. It is the concept that we create tendencies or cognitive bias towards something we see repeatedly. The reality being that it was always there, but we likely just didn’t notice it.
You’ve definitely experienced this. I know I have. Every time I’ve switched cars over the past 10 years I began to notice that a lot of people were driving the same car - did these cars suddenly appear on the road more frequently because of popularity? Or did I begin to notice them more because of my bias? Most likely the latter.
Most of the things we want to accomplish in life whether it be health, work, or relationship related - it is likely that it exists right before our eyes. We probably just don’t see it yet.
One of the tenets of living a happier, healthier life is taking action on our hopes and dreams. As mentioned earlier with the frequency illusion - once we have awareness of something it becomes top of mind. The next phase is setting intention and combining it with action.
The first step of taking action is removing all of the roadblocks. Fear of failure, fear of change, lack of clarity or assurance of timing are all potential roadblocks that keep us from taking action. It’s the same response that subconsciously keeps us from danger.
So get clear. Set a goal. Take action.
Stop waiting for the perfect conditions.
Stop overthinking it.
Focus on the present.
Eliminate your distractions.
And take action towards a healthier, happier life.
