Being Wrong

Even as I write the title of the article, I smirk.

Because the truth is…historically, like many people - I love to be right.

“We tend to prize truth less than the careful grooming of our egos.” - Jeremy Deaton

Over the last 20 years - I’ve learned that being wrong has taught me more lessons and helped me to grow than being right.

Here are a few lessons I’ve learned from being wrong.

  1. Forcing yourself to accept that you are wrong is volunteering yourself to grow.

  2. The greater your desire to be right, the greater your fear is of being wrong.

  3. As humans we thrive on knowing the truth. In situations of conflict, perhaps there is more than one truth?

  4. There are few things more powerful than ownership of wrongdoing, followed by a sincere apology.

  5. To make mistakes and come short is to be human. It is the majority of all of us. To admit, learn and grow from the mistakes is to be the minority.

We’ll likely never be free of being wrong. But learning to be wrong may free us to be right.
